Herrington 1926-2008 Dr. Clark Herrington, 82, Bad Axe, died of heart failure on Saturday, September 20, 2008 at Huron Medical Center in Bad Axe. Charles Clark Herrington was born June 3, 1926 in Bad Axe, the son of Dr. Charles I. Herrington and Phebe Clark Herrington. Dr. Herrington married Jeannette W. Buckley on July 8, 1950, in Mount Clemens. She preceded him in death on January 5, 1993. He married Jane Raven Smith on August 11, 1996. After graduating from Bad Axe High School in 1944, Dr. Herrington served in the U.S. Army. Upon discharge, he attended the University of Michigan and Wayne State University School of Medicine. After medical school, Dr. Herrington completed his surgical residency and trauma training at Detroit Receiving Hospital and Harper Hospital, where he served as chief resident. He then returned to Bad Axe with Jenny and raised their family of seven children. Dr. Herrington was a dedicated physician and community member. Dr. Herrington practiced general surgery throughout the Thumb area. He was instrumental in the formation of Huron Memorial Hospital and served on its board for many years. He was committed to the improvement of the medical profession and worked for the educational advancement of students and practitioners. He was a member of the Michigan State Medical Society and the Detroit Academy of Surgery. Dr. Herrington was also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and served as president of the Midwest Surgical Association. After his retirement in 1982, Dr. Herrington taught in the St. Clair County Community College Nursing Program in Bad Axe. He also served on the Bad Axe City Council for several years. He was an Eagle Scout, and enjoyed playing trombone in the community band in the 1970s. He was an avid reader with a special interest in the American Civil War. He is survived by his wife, Jane; his children, Susan (Joseph) Schwedler, Crystal Falls, Catherine (Michael Taft) Herrington, Ann Arbor, Charles (Ilene Shell) Herrington, Boise, Idaho, the Hon. David (Shelley) Herrington, Port Austin, Marion (James Warchall) Herrington, Port Austin, Dorothy Herrington, Salt Lake City, Utah and Margaret (Tim) Hinkle, Melrose, Mass.; step-children, Brien (Ann) Smith, Dallas, Texas, Maggie Smith, John Smith, Ann (Lance) Bell and Adam Smith, all of San Antonio, Texas; fourteen grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; sister, Mary (Nate) Herrington Whiteside, Glen Arbor and many nieces and nephews. Romzek, 81, Ruth, passed away Saturday, September 20, 2008 at the Huron Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe. She was born on November 29, 1926 in Sigel Township, to the late Peter and Rose (Kubacki) Smaglinski. She married Irvin J. Romek on June 14, 1947 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville. He preceded her in death on November 9, 2007. Ernestine attended a rural school until the eighth grade. She worked in a factory in Detroit during WWII. Ernestine then returned to the family farm for the rest of her life. She was a life long member of St. Mary Catholic church in Parisville where she was a member of the Rosary Sodality. She always enjoyed her flower garden, watching hummingbirds, hunting for morel mushrooms and picking agate stones at Lake Superior. She was a gardener and naturalist. She was proficient at crocheting, knitting, embroidery, quilting, basket weaving, sewing and ceramics. She also liked to play cards and enjoyed bingo, especially at Our Lady of Lake Huron Church in Harbor Beach. Ernestine was the best Ma and Grandma in the whole world. She is survived by six sons, Lt. Koehn 1924-2008 Frederick William Koehn, 84, Farmington, Minn., went to be with Jesus on September 19, 2008. He was born on February 5, 1924, to Herman C. and Ida (Arndt) Koehn, Harbor Beach. He was baptized on March 16, 1924 and confirmed at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Harbor Beach. He graduated on June 7, 1942 from Harbor Beach High School, Harbor Beach. He served in World War II from 1943-1946. Served 30 months in Army Air Force as an airplane mechanic and spent seven months in Europe. In 1950 he graduated from the University of Michigan with a bachelor's degree in Forestry. He worked as a railroad tie inspector for Illinois Central Railroad. In 1955 he graduated from University of Michigan with a Master's degree in Wood Technology. On June 18, 1955, Vera Olinda Uetrecht at Ebenezer Lutheran Church, St. Loius, Mo. Fred & Vera moved to Two Rivers, Wis., where Fred worked for Hamilton Manufacturing Co. for five years. In 1960, after one year with PlywoodFab Services in Minneapolis, Minn., Fred began work with 3M Company and retired after 25 years of service. He was a faithful member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Edina and served many years as trustee and took pleasure working as a handyman. His real hobby in retirement was refinishing old trunks. Fred was an avid supporter of Christian education and Concordia Seminary. His mission trips included three summers teaching VBS to Indian children in Canada, and two trips to Russia. He was born on November 28, 1918 in Harbor Beach, the son of the late Gabriel and Dorothy (Wengert) Kramer. Joe was a retired Sand Beach Township farmer and a partner with Melvin Kranz in Joe & Melvin's Excavating. He was a former sexton for the Rock Falls Cemetery and Our Lady of Lake Huron Church Cemetery. He was a member of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church in Harbor Beach. He enjoyed playing cards, traveling to Las Vegas, where he took his first airplane ride in 1995, visiting casinos in Michigan and Canada and was an avid Detroit Tiger fan. He is survived by a sister, Lorraine Thompson, Flushing and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Kramer. Hebert 1918-2008 Peter J. Hebert, 90, Bad Axe, passed away Friday, September 19, 2008 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Saginaw. He was born July 15, 1918 in Chandler Township, son of the late Nelson and Virginia (Ducharme) Hebert. He was raised by Mr. and Mrs. Charles Dondineau on their family farm in Pinnebog. He was united in marriage to June Sternberg on November 30, 1941 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe. After graduating from the Pinnebog High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 until 1945 on the U.S.S. West Point Navy Transport as a medic in the hospital corps. Peter was a well known banker in the Huron County area for 41 years. He first worked for Hubbard State Bank in Kinde. He was a former chairman of the board for Community Bank which had seven branches in Huron County. Peter was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe. He was also a member of many area boards and clubs, including, Huron Memorial Hospital Board of Directors, the Knights of Columbus #1546, Bad Axe Rotary, V.F.W and Verona Hills Golf Course. He enjoyed visiting with his grandchildren, was an avid golfer at Verona Hills and you could also find hime having coffee with his friends at the local coffee roundtable. He is survived by his wife, June, Bad Axe; two daughters, Dina (Roger) Burley, Virginia and Sallie (Scott) MacGregor, Bad Axe; two sons, Peter (Pat) Hebert, Arizona and Charles (Andrea) Hebert, Rochester Hills; eight grandchildren, Scott (Melissa) MacGregor, Midland, James (Maria) MacGregor, Royal Oak, Erik Burley and Bryan Burley, both of Virginia, Peter Hebert, Cleveland, Ohio, Emily Hebert, New York City, Charles Hebert and MacKenzie Hebert, Rochester Hills; one great-grandchild, Colin MacGregor, Midland; two sisters, Florence Parkham, Caseville and Winifred English, Lansing and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Virginia, Lucille, Marilyn and Rosemary; five brothers,Wilford, Cletus, James, Robert, Adelar and a special nephew, Mike Sternberg. AGAR DECKER William John Agar, age 74, of Decker, died Thursday, September 18, 2008 in Select Specialty Hospital, Saginaw. He was born March 19, 1934 in his Grandma's house in Elmwood Township to Harmon and Blanche (Smith) Agar. He married Joann F. Anderski June 27, 1959 in Saginaw. John served in the U.S. Air Force. He completed his toolmaker apprenticeship through Ford Motor Company and earned his journeyman card in 1958. John worked for tool companies in Saginaw before beginning work for Walbro as a tool engineer in 1983. He retired from Walbro in 1997. John was a 4-H Leader for nearly 30 years, teaching leather craft, photography, rocketry and woodworking. He was a member of the Sanilac County Fair Board, the Cass City Historical Society and the Cass City Genealogy Society and did a great deal of work on the research of the Elkland Township Cemetery map. John enjoyed golf and was a member of a golf league for many years. He truly enjoyed his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Joann; children, Stephen (Nesa) Agar, Belleville, Terry (Charles) Fahrner, Sebewaing and John (Barbara) Agar, Dearborn Heights; grandchildren, Kristy (Larry) Dumond, Andrew Fahrner, Aaron Fahrner, Robert Agar, Benjamin Agar and Daniel Agar; brother, Harmon (Nancy) Agar, Hart; sister, Thelma Chaussee, Westland and several nieces and nephews. Hueston, 72, of Hillsdale, passed away Friday, Sept. 26, 2008 at Arbor Hospice in Ann Arbor.  He was born Aug. 27, 1936 in Hillsdale to Ivan & Lula (Adams) Hueston.  He was married April 7, 1962 to G. Pauline Hueston and she preceded him in death in 1994.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     • William "Bill" Stocker 1924-2008 William "Bill" Stocker, 83, Bad Axe, passed away Sunday, September 14, 2008 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Saginaw. He was born September 17, 1924 in Dryden, to the late Donald and Ione (Hamlin) Stocker. He was united in marriage to Arlene Smith on March 26, 1944 in Wisconsin. She preceded him in death on December 22, 2007. Bill graduated from Dryden High School in the class of 1941. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945. He was self employed as a two-way radio repairman. He was a member of the Bad Axe First Presbyterian Church. He was councilman for the City of Bad Axe from 1966-1974 at which time he became the mayor until 1982 and was again a councilman for the next 11 years. He was a former Bad Axe Area firefighter. He was a life member of the Pigeon V.F.W Post 2236 and Verona-Huron Masonic Lodge #365 F&AM. He was very active and held many officer positions in these organizations. Bill enjoyed deer hunting and was an amateur radio operator. He is survived by two sons, Gerry (Elaine) Stocker, Bad Axe and James Stocker, Clarkston; daughter, Joy Krajenka, Bad Axe; two sisters, Margaret Glassford, Lapeer and Mary Ellen Rosebush, Dryden; nine grandchildren, Dennis and Bill Stocker, Renee Anderson, Sherrie Begely, Jon, Jeremy, Chris, Brian and Aaron Krajenka; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Donald Stocker. Funeral services were held on Thursday, September 18, 2008 at the MacAlpine Funeral Home "Mac Chapel" in Bad Axe. Rev. Jon Dykshoorn officiated, with cremation following at Sunset Valley Crematory, Bay City. Memorials may be offered to the Family Discretionary Fund.
