    • Alice Roller Roberts 1915-2008 Alice Roller Roberts, 93, Unionville, passed away September 6, 2008. She was born in Akron on April 6, 1915 to the late John and Ida (Dutcher) Heartwell. She married Hugh Ewald in 1935 and he passed away in 1954. In 1957, she married Elmer Roller, he passed away in 1990. In 1997 she married John Roberts, who preceded her in death in 2001. Alice was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Unionville and she enjoyed quilting, crocheting and traveling. She is survived by her children, Dale (Janet) Ewald, Sebewaing, Stuart (Sue) Roller, Caro, Dale Roller, Saginaw and Robert Roller, Lansing; grandchildren, Randy (Kim) Ewald, Renee (Tom) Eurich, Kevin (Shelly) Roller, Michelle (Mike) Joslyn, Chris Ewald and Michael Ewald; 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Darrell Ewald; her brothers, Frank and John Heartwell and her sister, Edith Schriber. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, September 9, 2008at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Rev. Michael Allen officiated, with interment taking place in St. Peter Cemetery. She was born November 3, 1966, in Glendale, Calif., to John T. and Ina Ruth (Whitlock) Derieg. Amy enjoyed boating and fishing, but her true passion was working with special needs children. In 2007, she accepted the position of "Director of Special Education" for Lapeer Community Schools. He was born March 20. 1934 in Marlette, son to the late Walter and Laura (Macklen) Davies. He married Shirley Sirdan June 3, 1961 in Kingston. He graduated from Marlette High School in 1952. He served his country in the U.S. Army 1955 to 1957. Mr. Davies worked 30 years at Buick City in Flint and 19 years at Ken Miller Farm's in Marlette. Everett was a long time member of the Hope Lutheran Church and also a member of the U.A.W. Local 599. He was a jack of all trades, a great husband, father and grandfather. He loved to go to toy tractor shows and also collect toy tractors , toy classic pickups and cars. He is survived by his wife Shirley of Marlette; son, David and Shellie Davies of Brown City; daughter, Linda and Sketter Ford of Clifford; grandchildren, Michael & Tyler Davies of Brown City, Kelsey Ford of DaytonaBeach, FL and Taylor Ford of Clifford; brother, Emerson and Pat Davies of Chester, SC; sister in law, Thelma Whitford of Tawas. Volz 1912-2008 Florence Marie Volz, 95, Sebewaing, went into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, September 5, 2008. She passed away in Pigeon Scheurer Hospital following a brief stay. She was born on December 19, 1912 in Brookfield Township, daughter of the late Christian and Ernestina (Kurzer) Roemer. She was united in marriage to Paul E. Volz on November 5, 1938 in Kilmanagh. He preceded her in death on August 24, 1945. Florence was janitress at the former Farmers and Merchants State Bank the First of America Bank in Sebewaing for 20 years. She additionally was employed at the Sherwood on the Hill in Gagetown and other Sebewaing offices and homes before retiring at age 74. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, a charter member of the Mary Martha Guild and she enjoyed numerous Bible classes. She continued to maintain a beautiful flower garden at her home into her early 90s. She is survived by four children, Kenneth Volz, Sebewaing, Margaret Dembowski, Manila, Philippines, Bernette (Ken) Adams, St. Charles and Janis (Dennis) Pardeik, Flushing; 12 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; nine extended great-grandchildren and three extended great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Clara (Claude) Hornbacher, Sebewaing and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Dronsella and a brother, Elmer Roemer. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church. The Rev. Michael Boyer will officiate with burial to take place in the Northlawn Cemetery. He was a graduate of Port Hope High School and attended Lawrence Tech in Detroit. He worked as a Master Electrician for Bouvrette Electric Inc. in St. Clair Shores for 27 years then retired to his farm in Huron Township in 1981. He enjoyed playing cards, especially euchre, fishing and hunting. He was a member of I.B.E.W Local #58 in Detroit, a board member of Thumb Area Transit for many years, a member of the Electrical Workers Retiree Association and was an honorary member and past president of the Port Hope Sportsmen Club. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Beverly "Mitzie" Muter, Port Hope; two sons, John "Jack" (Shawn) Muter Jr., Riley Township and Jamie (Renee) Muter, Troy; one daughter, Jill (Michael) Gold, Huntington Woods; nine grandchildren, Joe, Mary, David, Dan, Josh, Elizabeth and Benjamin Muter, Troy and Duncan and Colin Muter, Riley Township; two brothers, Ervin (Shirley) Muter, Bad Axe and Fred (Joann) Muter, Port Hope; two sisters, Inez (Jim) Frye, Kewadin and Tracey (Ken) Friedland, Macomb and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his in-laws, Joe and Eleanor Bouvrette Sr. and two nephews, Richard Muter and Joe T. Bouvrette. Services were held on Monday, September 8, 2008 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rapson. Fr. Rob Howe, pastor officiated, with burial taking place in the church cemetery.
