Caroline E. Gaiera 1917 - 2008 Caroline Elizabeth "Carrie" Gaiera, 90, Pigeon and formerly of Detroit, passed away Thursday, August 21, 2008 at Scheurer Hospital Long Term Care in Pigeon. She was born in Detroit on September 7, 1917, she was the daughter of the late John Peter and Louise (Martin) Sachs. She graduated from Eastern High School in Detroit. On June 15, 1939 she was united in marriage to Charles Gaiera in Detroit. Carrie worked for many years as a clerk in the Assessors Office of the City of Detroit. In the late 60s she and Charlie retired and moved to the Saginaw Bay shore. She enjoyed playing golf, needlepoint and playing cards, especially euchre and pinochle. She loved swimming and being near the water. She was a member of St. Roch Catholic Church in Caseville. She is survived by her husband of more than 69 years, Charles Gaiera, Pigeon; a daughter-in-law, Bonnie Gaiera, Novi; three grandchildren, Kimberly Gaiera, Hartland, Carolyn (Stephen) O'Keefe, Saline and Greg (Heather) Gaiera, California; four great-grandchildren, Sean O'Keefe, Jackson O'Keefe, Samantha Gaiera and Cleo Gaiera and a sister, Delores (Ben) Neely, Massachusetts. Gerry worked for several years as a secretary at Sandusky Community Schools, retiring in 1980. She served in the Women's Army Aulixary Corp. She is survived by sons, Lee Beatty of Sandusky, John & Denise Beatty of Mio, Doug & Julie Beatty of Sandusky; daughter, Marilyn Solis of Sandusky; sister, Gay Murphy of Port Sanilac; nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren. Lucille Van Doeselaar was born March 21, 1926, in Sheboygan, Wis., the daughter of James and Lavina Van Doeselaar. Lucy had previously lived in Quincy, Ill., and Grand Rapids. She spent most of her life in the Imlay City area. She married Kenneth D. Winslow on March 3, 1951 in Imlay City. Lucy was a member of the Imlay City Christian Reformed Church. She was employed at Imlay City State Bank and Security Bank North East as a teller and cashier. She retired in 1989. They owned and operated Backus Oil Company in Carsonville until her retirement in 1981. She enjoyed traveling, reading, and spending time with her family.
